Trowalizing

Trowalizing or vibratory cutting is a frequently used process, especially in metal processing. A workpiece is positioned in a drum together with loose abrasive grains. This sets the objects in relative motion so that material is removed. Several purposes can be achieved with trowalizing, including

  • Deburring
  • Rounding
  • Polishing
  • Matting
  • Degrease

The abrasives used differ in their shape, size and material. The surface finish that can be achieved depends on the totality of these properties and the speed of their movement.

#1 Definition Trowalizing

Trowalizing is a machining process in which geometrically indeterminate cutting edges are responsible for material removal. More precisely, in barrel finishing (also known as slide cutting), it is a large number of loose abrasive grains that cause chip removal.

For this purpose, they are placed in a rotating drum together with mostly metallic workpieces.

#2 Applications of trowalizing

Trowalizing is of great importance in sealing technology. The process is used for surface treatment of the sealing surfaces on the one hand and for removing burrs on the O-rings themselves due to the manufacturing process on the other.
