TR-10 value

The TR-10 value describes the resilience of elastomers that have been deformed at low temperatures. The characteristic value is also referred to as the temperature retraction value and enables the elasticity to be evaluated in the low temperature range.

#1 Definition TR-10 Value

The TR-10 value is an elastomer-specific characteristic value for the low-temperature behavior of the material. It indicates in °C the temperature at which a sample previously stretched by a defined amount and frozen returns to its original shape by 10 percent.

#2 Meaning of the TR-10 value

An important feature of sealing elements is their behavior at changing temperatures. The upper and lower temperature application limits define the thermal application range of a gasket material.

The technical properties relevant to the seal are sufficiently stable within the limit values. If the temperature limits are exceeded upwards or downwards, the material loses the desired hardness or elasticity, for example.

As a result, the sealing effect is lost. The TR-10 test is a key tool for assessing the low-temperature suitability of materials.
