The term sealing system covers all the main components involved in a seal. This includes these elements:
- Sealing surfaces or flanges
- Gasket
- Connecting elements
A sealing system is planned in such a way that the cost and reliability requirements are met. Depending on the application, there are different priorities that influence the design of the sealing system.
A basic distinction is made between static and dynamic sealing systems. While the components to be sealed in static sealing systems do not perform any regular relative movement, dynamic systems primarily seal pistons and rods in hydraulics and pneumatics.
