Molding is a process for processing plastics. It is also known as compression molding. The functional principle is that a molding compound is inserted into the cavities of the mold.
The mold is then closed, using heat as well as pressure. After the cooling process, the workpieces can be removed. They have now assumed the shape specified in the tool.
The molding compound for molding usually consists of semi-finished products that have already undergone shaping production steps such as extrusion. Molding can be distinguished from injection molding by the fact that solid blanks are inserted into an open mold.
Injection molding machines, on the other hand, press molten plastic into a closed mold.
