Approval BSE/TSE

Materials approved as BSE or TSE-free do not contain any ingredients of animal origin. They are often referred to as ADI-free.

ADI stands for animal derived ingredients. In the narrower sense, the BSE/TSE approval refers to the fact that the products do not contain any animal pathogens that could transmit them.

BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) is a fatal brain disease in cattle. It belongs to the group of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) that can spread to humans. Products with BSE/TSE approval must pass strict microbiological tests.

#1 Definition Approval BSE/TSE

Approval as BSE or TSE-free indicates that the product in question does not contain any ingredients of animal origin. This prevents the pathogens that cause transmissible brain diseases (TSEs) from entering sensitive areas via the products.

#2 Meaning of approval BSE/TSE

The BSE/TSE freedom of sealing elements is required for many applications. For example, in plant engineering for biotechnological and food technology applications, it is common practice to specify that the entire plant and all components are ADI-free.
