Tempering

Annealing is a heat treatment process that can be divided into three phases. The slow and even heating of the workpiece is followed by a defined phase of constant temperature. Finally, the workpiece is continuously cooled down to room temperature in an equally controlled manner.

The aim of tempering is usually to change the microstructure of metallic components in order to adjust certain material properties.

Tempering plastic components also relieves internal stresses caused by processing

#1 Definition Tempering

Annealing is a heat treatment process that consists of a slow heating process, maintaining the temperature and a slow cooling process.

The aim of heat treatment is to change the properties of entire solids or their surface.

#2 Meaning of tempering

Elastomer components for sealing technology are usually manufactured using vulcanization. This step in the manufacturing process gives them their shape and elastic properties.

Suitable materials can then be tempered to increase the degree of cross-linking of the material. This has a positive effect on the seal-relevant properties
