Temperature resistance

Many technical properties of materials depend on the temperature. Examples include elasticity and hardness. Temperature resistance (also heat resistance) describes the ability of a material to maintain its relevant technical properties under high heat.

Materials or finished products with special temperature resistance therefore have a higher upper temperature limit.

Above this limit, their properties change to such an extent that they become unusable or destroyed.

#1 Definition of temperature resistance

Temperature resistance is the resistance of materials, semi-finished or finished products to the effects of heat.

The individual temperature resistance limit marks the upper temperature limit at which the temperature-dependent properties of the material change significantly. Solids may melt or ignite.

#2 Importance of temperature resistance

Temperature resistance is an important criterion for the selection of materials in sealing technology. Friction and hot media can lead to a high temperature input into the sealing elements.

O-rings with a pronounced temperature resistance retain their sealing properties for longer.
