Deformation generally describes a change in the shape of a body. An external mechanical influence is responsible for this. The body opposes the deformation force with a deformation resistance.
In a technical context, a distinction is made between elastic and plastic deformation. The type of deformation that occurs depends on the magnitude of the acting force and the material properties of the body. Plastic deformation results in a permanent change in shape.
In contrast, an elastically deformed body returns to its original shape as soon as the deformation force no longer acts. Depending on the point of application of the force, the deformation can be expressed as changes in angle or length.
