Deburring

Burrs are unwanted amounts of material on the finished part. They can occur during a variety of industrial processing methods and are removed before completion. Deburring refers to the process of removing these quantities of material.

For example, burrs often form along the mold parting line in primary forming processes such as plastic injection molding. The smallest offsets in the tool arrangement are responsible for this. When turning or milling metal, the material displacement causes burrs.

#1 Definition Deburring

In production technology, deburring refers to the removal of sharp edges, splinters or other production-related surface deviations on a workpiece. Deburring serves to ensure perfect function and to reduce the risk of injury.

#2 Importance of deburring

In the field of sealing technology, the deburring of workpieces is of great importance. In general, all workpiece edges that are traversed during O-ring assembly, such as at the groove recess or holes, must be deburred. This serves to prevent damage.

In addition, O-rings themselves can be deburred to meet the surface quality requirements.
