Blooming describes an efflorescence that can occur on a wide variety of materials. In addition to glass and concrete, however, plastics are particularly affected by this effect.
Efflorescence is caused by certain components of the material mixture coming to the surface through chemical migration. In the field of plastics, the migration of plasticizers to the surface or into surrounding materials is primarily considered.
The blooming effect can have a negative impact on the material properties of the affected workpiece, but also on objects that come into contact with it. This is usually due to incorrect dosing of material components, the use of incompatible components or unsuitable storage.
