Static application
Static application refers to a type of use of seals. Depending on their application, the components are also referred to as static seals.
Static applications are characterized by the fact that the two sealing surfaces do not perform any regular relative movements to each other.
As a result, the static seals on the component surfaces are not exposed to any permanent frictional load. In addition to the static application, there is also the dynamic application, in which the sealing element seals two components that move relative to each other.
Examples of static applications in machine and plant engineering include
- Flange connections of pipelines
- Maintenance openings
- Housing cover
In addition to O-rings, flat gaskets and molded gaskets are also used for static applications.

#2 Meaning of static applications
In addition to elastic sealing elements, hard material seals made of metal and composite materials are also suitable for static applications.
The components differ, among other things, in their adaptability to the component surfaces and in their chemical and thermal resistance.
